Ella is only a small village located high in the edge of central mountains of Sri Lanka. Most international visitors prefer to spend couple of days there. If you are willing to travel out of town, you can find plenty of things to do to keep you occupied. Dunhinda falls, Diyaluma falls, Bogoda wooden bridge are few of them. Although the tourism is the major income in this village, the nice thing about Ella is that there doesn’t seem to be anyone trying to con you. If you plan to spend two, three days in Ella, the attractions you shouldn’t miss are as follows.
Little Adam’s Peak
It is also known as Punchi Sri Pada. The peak of Little Adam’s peak is 1141 m above sea level. This mountain attracts many international travelers who come to Sri Lanka. The panoramic view from the peak is great at sunrise. We recommend you start the climb at 04:30 am
Nine arch bridge
Seeing this attraction is quite worthwhile. The bridge is situated 2 km away from Ella town and was built by the British in the early 20th century. It has nine sky bridges and is built entirely of solid bricks, rock, and cement with no steel.
Ella Rock
Climbing Ella Rock is a great activity for those that are really interested in hiking and trekking. But it is a slightly more challenging climb than climbing to Little Adam’s Peak. It is recommended to hire a local guide for this hike, as there are no clear signs for a way back. If you start early in the morning, the climb will be much easier than climb in the mid-day. It takes about 2 hours to climb to the top, with a hike through tranquil woodland and tea plantations.
