Detailed itinerary.

Pinnawala & Kandy Day Trip

You will meet our English-speaking chauffer guide at your hotel lobby at 06:00 am.

Thereafter transfer to Pinnawala where the elephant orphanage is situated at. It is a 3 h drive. The orphanage has the largest herd of captive Asian elephants in the world. It is not simply an elephant orphanage, but also a nursery and a captive breeding ground, which has nurtured and cared for countless elephants since its inception in the year 1975. One of the most unique experiences that visitors will be able to enjoy here, is observing the bathing elephants, as they interact and play, unhindered by the gazing masses. The Orphanage is open from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm, allowing visitors to interact with the elephants during the regulated bathing and feeding times. Visitors are also entitled to witness the daily caring routines of the elephants which include bottle feeding elephant calves and feeding the mature elephants. You can have your late breakfast at Pinnawala.

Your next stop is Spice Garden in Matale, just 15 minutes drive from Pinnawala towards Kandy. Sri Lanka has always been renowned for its spices. Over 15 different spices call Sri Lanka home and many of them are traded in the international spice market. Cinnamon especially is endemic to Sri Lanka.

After that transfer to Kandy the last capital of Sri Lankan rulers, a World Heritage Site. The name Kandy evokes quality and grand dreams. A lot of legends, traditions, and old stories are still full of energy. In 1806, the last Sinhala ruler, Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe, drove around Lake Kandy.

Visit the Peradeniya Botanical Garden. This professional flower bed was originally extended by the British as the joy of the Sinhala Lord. It has 147 parts of the land and offers amazing trees, plants and flowers.

The top attraction of Kandy is Sri Dalada Maligawa, also known as the Temple of the Tooth. The entire complex is over three centuries old. It has seen bloody wars and peaceful reigns and is one of the most historical places still standing on the island.

You can have your lunch at Kandy.

Giragama is one of the premium tea plantations in the country.

Your last stop is Giragama Tea plantation. It is the nearest plantation to Kandy. This tea plantation spreads across many hectares. While visiting the plantation drop in to also purchase tea at the very same place.
